The button for interaction moves up and down, the elevator itself does not. This has been the case since at least the version which was most current on September 28th.
Also, pillars like the one in the attached image can be walked through, and the seam which I've tried to outline in red can be stood on.
It's actually possible to use clever platforming to get on top of one of these pillars to get out of this room without using the elevator and activating the switch, but this seems to bypass a loading zone/trigger as almost no visuals appear beyond this point besides the skybox and what I assume is some background scenery.
